Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
Lit Comps is in private beta. These terms are a plain-language starting point and should be reviewed by a lawyer before a public launch.
1. What Lit Comps is
Lit Comps is a searchable database of published books ("comp titles") that helps writers find comparable titles for their manuscripts. During the beta, access is provided free of charge to invited users.
2. Accounts and access
Access is by invitation during the beta. You log in with a one-time link sent to your email — there is no password. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure. Do not share your login link. We may grant, limit, or revoke beta access at our discretion.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Scrape, bulk-download, resell, or redistribute the database or its contents;
- Attempt to bypass access controls or disrupt the service;
- Use the service to violate any law or infringe anyone's rights.
4. Your content
Your saved shelf items, reading status, reflections, and feedback belong to you. By submitting them, you grant us permission to store and process them to operate the service. We do not sell your content.
5. Book data and affiliate links
Book metadata, cover images, and descriptions come from third-party sources and may contain errors. Purchase links point to Bookshop.org. As a Bookshop.org affiliate, we may earn a commission when you buy through those links, at no extra cost to you. We are not the seller and are not responsible for third-party purchases, fulfillment, or pricing.
6. Beta software — no warranty
The service is provided "as is" during the beta, without warranties of any kind. Features may change, break, or be discontinued, and data may be lost. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
7. Changes
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
